nominate your community hero

Whether it is a local band like Blossoms who are promoting a positive image of Stockport around the world or whether it is a young person who tirelessly raises money for charity, we would like you to say thank you to local special citizens.

The reason Stockport council are recognising our Community Heroes is that more often than not, those who go the extra mile often go unrecognised and to remedy that, they’re now launching a rolling programme of council civic awards.

The categories include;

Promoting Stockport as a place to live and do business: individuals or groups who have promoted a positive image of Stockport on a national or regional stage

Recognising local innovation: Groups or Communities who are sparking growth from innovation

Contributing to a thriving economy: Organisations making a difference in Stockport by creating jobs, employing local people, contributing to a community, taking on apprentices or care leavers

Resilient Communities: acknowledging a person or group that has worked hard to create a safer neighbourhood. And helped to make a community where people help each other in times of need.

Community Creatives: championing community arts and creative projects, big or small, from individuals or groups showing how creative activities can benefit individuals and strengthen communities.

Education providers making a difference in a community: targeting schools, colleges, nurseries who are reaching out with projects and activities in their local area.

Young people making a difference in their community: targeting youth groups, cadets, scouting, Duke of Edinburgh awards etc.

Sport and exercise contributing to health and wellbeing in a community: targeting running clubs, football coaches, walking clubs, dancing etc.

Volunteering to promote independence in a community: people doing it for themselves with initiatives like food banks, friends of parks and localities, clubs etc.
